big bear’s guesthouse
We have a beautiful light-filled Victorian townhome next to Big Bear available for guest stays.
It is perfect for a wedding party weekend (and dressing space for the ceremony next door), a family holiday get-away, or simply a short-term home or home-office.

(sleeps 6 to 8)
The space is newly renovated with a large open living area, a white-marble modern kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 2-1/2 bathrooms, and a sunny little patio for morning coffee.
Neighborhood
Bloomingdale is a beautiful tree-lined Victorian neighborhood known for its iconic locally owned restaurants, hidden parks, community gardens, and friendly people.
You can take classes in the morning at Yoga District down the street, and have espresso on the garden patio of the Big Bear Cafe. Local restaurants and bars include the Red Hen (a wood-oven Italian favorite), the Boundary Stone Irish Pub, DC Smokehouse (BBQ), Showtime (dive bar), Pub and the People (neighborhood bar/restaurant), Meats and Food (butcher and sausage house), Jam Doung (Jamaican carryout), Aroi Thai, and more. There is a large community garden (Common Good City Farm, and Wangari Gardens) within walking distance, and the secret Crispus Attucus park is ideal for picnics, and "Movies Under the Stars" in the summer.
Getting Around
The home is directly on the R street bike trail (that leads to the Metro Branch Trail, Union Station, and downtown).
A DC bike-share station is directly across Florida Avenue where you can easy rent bikes and drop them virtually anywhere in the city.
You can rent stand-up scooters or seated motorbike scooters that are usually available on the sidewalks. The Shaw Metro Station and NOMA metro are both within walking distance so that you can visit any area in the city by train. The bus service is also available across the street.
Many people use Uber or other rideshare services which are most always available within minutes.
Bloomingdale is a few blocks from the convention center, and is a quick bike ride to the National Mall (take the Metro Branch Trail to the museums and monuments).
Day Trips
A few great day trips include biking the canal in Georgetown (you can rent paddle-boats at the boathouse), visiting the “night museums” at the FDR memorial or Jefferson Memorial, visiting the capital building at night, walking Roosevelt Island, visiting the wharf, or hiking the trails in Rock Creek Park and the Billy Goat Trail at Great Falls.
